General practice would be 12 weeks

Or 100kgs friesen

90kg fr/jr cross

80kg Jersey

Plus eating 1 kg/calf/day of at least 16% protein meal or similar feed

Calves need 17% protein in their diet up till a year old so the first summer is also critical for protein intake I see a lot of well reared calves under done through the summer.

I normally feed 20% protein meal right after taking off milk, But RD1 staff told me many farmers feed their calves 16%.

What is your opinion? I find my calves struggle when I give them 16%.

Your are doing it right feeding the higher protein after weaning, not sure why they would recomend the high protein while feeding milk?

I have never thought about how much protein they need AFTER weaning off.

Would you give extra pallets if the grass quality is not good?

Yea just some kind of protein

Pallets is probably the easiest way.

Not PKE till after 10 months old.

A long summer with poor feed quality can be tough as the grass becomes low in protein.

You have probably noticed this yourself over the years and this is why it happens
