Tomorrow, I am going to drain a cow abscess. I have never done it before,, It's going to be interesting.

What knife should I use?? Teat spray would be enough? or should I spray straight iodine?

So many questions..

Anna, surgical blade (scalpel blade made by Kruuse) works better, and iodine is fine to use.

@farmerjack

As soon as I see abscess, i give Procaine penicillin and ketoprofen  for first 03 days and continue with penicillin only to 5th day. Then I withdraw it from injections till I notice pus in abcess ( here cutting and cleaning it and apply iodine till it dries). More two days of injecting penicillin not bad after draining though this depends on how the wound is responding.

Yes Anna, procaine penicillin (penstrep) is anti-flammatory and aids in fight against wound infections.
